Among all the other local recreation areas in the northern part of Hamburg, the Alsterwanderweg hiking trail stands out: Extending over roughly 37 km from Kayhude in Schleswig-Holstein to the bank of the Elbe River, it passes through impressive landscapes while surrounded by urban structures.

Insiders have for a long time thought of Hummelsbüttel as a preferred residential location in Alstertal, a district that combines the positive aspects of its neighbouring districts.
